David and Leigh Eddings-The Redemption of Althalus « Thread Started on Jun 5, 2004, 6:03am »
I have to say, I really enjoyed this book. Although its layout was a little predictable (consolidation, struggle, showdown, happy ending), there were more than enough clever devices throughout to make me forget about it. The eight main characters in the book are all unique. They have varying levels of intelligence, intuition, determination and strength, and the Eddings' write these differences perfectly. Another part of this book I greatly enjoyed was the way the plot previous to Part 2 revealed itself as you read on. Intuiting the reasons for everything was great fun, and seemed complex enough so that the level of appreciation of the book depended on the insight of the reader.
I'm not making much sense at the moment. I'll try again later.

It's a good book, but ORIGINAL? Hardly! David Eddings is one of the most formulaic authors EVER. Compare that book to the Elenium, and further back to the Belgariad.

You... have a point. Bear in mind that I didn't like any David Eddings I read. Just when he wrote with his wife. I've dropped at least three of his solo books a quarter of the way through.
